Our Dojo

Our dojo is located in the Lower Pacific Heights district of San Francisco on 1625 Bush Street between Franklin and Gough Street. The neighborhood is safe and convenient, and a short walk away from Japan Town where the members enjoy immersing themselves in the culture that Shotokan Karate first emerged from.

The practice room is clean, spacious and has visitor seating. It is a shared space with San Francisco Aikikai run by Sensei Joseph.

Members

Our dojo members are dedicated karate practitioners at all levels of experience, from beginners to senior black belts. Many of our members have participated in international tournament competition and often attend special seminars conducted around the country.

Dojo History

Shihan Wayne Shockness founded the dojo in the early 90s after moving to San Francisco from New York City. The dojo has moved locations a few times over its 25+ years existence, but the founding principles and traditions have always stayed the same. Currently, San Francisco is the main dojo, although Shihan Shockness is the chief instructor at seven dojos around the United States and Mexico.
